New Regional Health Orders Announced

This afternoon, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry, implemented additional regional Provincial Health Orders for the eastern Fraser Valley.

Among new restrictions on organized and personal gatherings, Dr. Henry is now requiring proof of double vaccination for anyone 12 and older (born in 2009) in order to participate in any indoor sporting activities or to enter gyms, dance and fitness studios, recreation centers, and a variety of other indoor establishments. This announcement moved the original date requiring double vaccination up from October 24th. The requirement is in place until January 31, 2022, and could be extended.

A BC Vaccine Card (either paper or digital) is the only proof of vaccination that will be accepted.

We Are Open- Message from BC Taekwondo Vice President, Tony Kook.

Dear BC Taekwondo Members,

There were some news reports including this one that has ordered all indoor sports must close including martial arts:

https://globalnews.ca/news/7481724/dance-studios-closed-bc/

We remind students and parents (and inspectors if they come in) that we are an official sport with Taekwondo BC (official Provincial Sport Organization) under ViaSport. We are cleared to continue with practice sessions under Phase 3 with no spectators.

We can sometimes rely on the media to report accurate news but today caused some confusion.

Please encourage everyone to frequent the Provincial BC website for the most accurate and up to date information.

Today’s most recent update can be found here https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/safety/emergency-preparedness-response-recovery/covid-19-provincial-support/restrictions#athletics and while it states that indoor sports like Martial Arts must suspend, right below it under the section titled “Sports games, competitions, and practices” you will see that it states we are cleared to have practices as per Phase 3 with no spectators and travel restrictions.

As always, the BC Taekwondo Board of directors would like to let everyone know we are here to support our members and we encourage you all to continue doing your part to uphold and safety standards and help flatten the curve. We encourage everyone to make the best decision for their Academies and stay up to date with us and the PHO.Of course, if there are any new mandates, updates, and clarifications, we will do our best to deliver this to you right away. We are daily and weekly communicating with advisors including ViaSport for the most up to date and accurate information.

Respectfully,

Master Tony Kook
